Description
“bhūmir-āpo’nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ mano buddhir-eva ca | ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me bhinnā prakṛtir-aṣṭadhā || 4 ||
Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect and the ego; make up the eight parts of My material nature.” Bhagavad Gita 7.4
In a world that moves fast, demands much, and often pulls us away from ourselves, many of us feel tired, overstimulated, or subtly out of balance — even when life seems “fine” on the surface.
This Five Elements Retreat in the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands is an invitation to pause, breathe, and gently realign your whole being — body, mind, heart, and soul.
Guided by Swami Anashuya, this retreat is based on the profound teachings of Paramahamsa Vishwananda on the Five Elements, which Gurudev has been sharing for over ten years.
These teachings reveal how all of creation — and our own body and psyche — are formed from the same divine energies: earth, water, fire, air, and ether.
When these elements are in harmony within us, we naturally experience:
- greater wellbeing and vitality
- emotional and mental clarity
- a deeper sense of peace and inner stability
- a more natural connection to ourselves, to life, and to God
When they are out of balance, we often feel stressed, restless, heavy, scattered, or depleted — and over time, this can even manifest as illness or exhaustion.
🌿 Realignment Through Direct Experience in Nature
Rather than working only with concepts, this retreat invites you into direct, lived experience.
Each day, we will journey into the majestic landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park and its surroundings to connect with one of the elements in a carefully chosen natural setting.
Mountains, lochs, forests, beaches, and wide open skies become not just scenery — but living teachers.
At each carefully chosen location within the wild Scottish environment, the knowledge of that natural element will assist you in truly engaging with a profound understanding of both material and spiritual reality.
🌿 A Journey Back to Yourself
In ancient Vedic wisdom, all matter is understood as God’s energy (prakriti), expressing itself in countless forms. By learning to recognize and harmonize these same energies within ourselves, we open the door to a more natural, healthy, and graceful way of being.
The purpose of each exercise is to activate and balance the elements within ourselves, enabling us to uncover our full potential as human beings.
Through gentle spiritual practices, guided exercises, moments of silence, and quiet contemplation in these powerful natural places, you are invited to slow down, release inner tension, reconnect with your body and breath, and gradually return to a more natural state of inner balance and harmony.
It is a journey not only through the Scottish Highlands — but back into your own center.
🌿 Special Places We Will Visit

Teacher
Swami Anashuya
“Connect with nature through the 5 elements in the beautiful Scottish National park – it’s simply amazing. I am so excited to share this adventure with you!” – Swami Anashuya
Growing up in the quiet West Country of the United Kingdom, Swami Anashuya was deeply drawn to the fundamental questions of life — the mysteries of existence, the nature of the soul, and the question of who God truly is.
After studying Biochemistry and Neuroscience at Imperial College and University College London, his search for deeper understanding led him through many years of self-discovery and spiritual practice. In 2006 he met his spiritual master, Paramahamsa Vishwananda, a meeting that profoundly transformed the direction of his life.
For more than twenty years he has been dedicated to the path of Bhakti Yoga and to helping people experience the love of God in a real and transformative way. Through yoga, meditation, sacred arts, scriptural wisdom, and spiritual practices, he guides others towards a deeper connection with themselves, the Divine, and the true purpose of life. Location & Accommodation
Our Home for the Retreat
Being outdoors changes people. When the walls fall away, we naturally begin to move, breathe, and experience life differently. At Badaguish, a unique place in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, we discover the quiet transformative power of nature.
Nestled in a woodland clearing within the Glenmore Forest, our lodge offers a peaceful base from which we will set out each day to explore the surrounding Highlands.
Throughout the retreat we will have the lodge entirely to ourselves — a modern and spacious haven in the midst of the forest.
The Cairngorms National Park — the largest in the United Kingdom — is a vast landscape of:
ancient Caledonian pine forests,
glistening lochs and fast-flowing rivers,
sweeping mountain ranges and quiet glens,
and an abundance of wildlife.
The next little town to go to is Aviemore next to the river Spey. From there it is around 15 minutes (6.3 miles) by car to our lodge in Badaguish.
Best airports to fly to are Glasgow or Inverness.
From Glasgow are frequent trains to Aviemore trainstation.
Or if you go by car it will take around three hours.
From Inverness airport in the north of Aviemore it takes around 50 mins by car.
There is also an overnight train from London, the “Caledonian Sleeper” that brings you to Aviemore trainstation.
In Scotland you have to expect rain any time of the year. And temperatures can range a great deal too. That means you should be prepared for a variety of weather.
