Description

“bhūmir-āpo’nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ mano buddhir-eva ca | ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me bhinnā prakṛtir-aṣṭadhā || 4 ||

Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect and the ego; make up the eight parts of My material nature.” Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 7 Verse 4

In a world that moves fast, demands much, and often pulls us away from ourselves, many of us feel tired, overstimulated, or subtly out of balance — even when life seems “fine” on the surface.

This Five Elements Retreat in the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands is an invitation to pause, breathe, and gently realign your whole being — body, mind, heart, and soul.

Guided by Swami Anashuya, this retreat is based on the profound teachings of Paramahamsa Vishwananda on the Five Elements, which Gurudev has been sharing for over ten years.
These teachings reveal how all of creation — and our own body and psyche — are formed from the same divine energies: earth, water, fire, air, and ether.

When these elements are in harmony within us, we naturally experience:

  • greater wellbeing and vitality
  • emotional and mental clarity
  • a deeper sense of peace and inner stability
  • a more natural connection to ourselves, to life, and to God

When they are out of balance, we often feel stressed, restless, heavy, scattered, or depleted — and over time, this can even manifest as illness or exhaustion.

🌿 Realignment Through Direct Experience in Nature

Rather than working only with concepts, this retreat invites you into direct, lived experience.

Each day, we will journey into the majestic landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park and its surroundings to connect with one of the elements in a carefully chosen natural setting.
Mountains, lochs, forests, beaches, and wide open skies become not just scenery — but living teachers.

Through gentle spiritual practices, guided exercises, silence, and contemplation in these powerful places, you are invited to:

  • calm your nervous system
  • release inner tension
  • reconnect with your body and breath
  • and gradually return to a more natural inner order and balance

This is not a retreat of pressure or self-improvement, but one of softening, listening, and re-harmonizing.

🌿 A Journey Back to Yourself

In ancient Vedic wisdom, all matter is understood as God’s energy (prakriti), expressing itself in countless forms. By learning to recognize and harmonize these same energies within ourselves, we open the door to a more natural, healthy, and graceful way of being.

This retreat offers you:

  • a genuine reset from daily life
  • time to breathe and slow down
  • space to feel yourself again
  • and a deep, nourishing reconnection with your spiritual practice

It is a journey not only through the Scottish Highlands — but back into your own center.

🌿 Special Places We Will Visit

Each element day takes place in a carefully chosen environment:

Air Day: Ord Bàn Mountain — wide skies and breathtaking panoramic views across the Cairngorm mountain range

Fire Day: Findhorn Beach — glowing sand dunes and a vast, wild shoreline stretching for seven miles

Earth Day: Cove Bay — a quiet, hidden beach with caves along the North Sea coast

Water Day: Loch Eilein — one of the most beautiful and still lochs in the Highlands, a place of deep reflection

Excursion Day: Loch Ness and the Findhorn Spiritual Community & Eco-Village, including a personal guided visit

Swami Anashuya

“Connect with nature through the 5 elements in the beautiful Scottish National park – it’s simply amazing. I am so excited to share this adventure with you!” – Swami Anashuya

Swami Anashuya has dedicated his life to the study and practice of ancient spiritual teachings of the Hindu tradition. He had the great fortune of meeting his spiritual master Paramamhamsa Vishwananda in 2006 and in 2008 he was initiated as Swami into the spiritual lineage.

Known for his unique ability to convey complex spiritual concepts in a clear and concise manner, Swami Anashuya is making the teachings accessible to people of all backgrounds and experience levels. He is known for his compassionate and supportive approach (with humour!) and his ability to create a nurturing space for individuals to explore their spiritual paths.

Participants

This retreat aims to help each participant connect with nature within the wild and untamed landscapes of Scotland, fostering a sense of connection and balance with the various elements of nature within ourselves.

Our teachings are delivered with warmth, accessibility, and inclusivity, welcoming participants from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience. The goal is for you to integrate these teachings into your spiritual practice at home.
Swami Anashuya will provide practical examples and recommendations for application during each day of the retreat, including guidance on practice frequency and techniques.

Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or taking your first steps on the spiritual path, you’ll find support and encouragement in our nurturing retreat community.

As you immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes and soul-stirring vistas of the Scottish Highlands, you will have the opportunity to connect with others as well as have a peaceful time for yourself, share experiences, and build relationships.

Location & Accommodation

Being outdoors changes people; if you strip away four walls, individuals act more naturally and embrace different values. Discover the transformative power of the outdoors at Badaguish, a unique spot in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park area.

As an accommodation and facilities site, Badaguish invites you to explore and develop new skills. Situated in a woodland clearing within the Glenmore Forest, it offers a relaxing space for us to embark every day on a different adventure exploring the beauty of the region.

We have one wooden lodge at Badaguish all for ourselves, providing a safe haven in the idyllic woodland setting. The lodge is modern, spacious, and well equipped.

The Cairngorms National Park encompasses mountains and valleys and within this, many different villages with their own communities.

The largest of the UK’s national parks, located in the heart of Scotland, the Cairngorms is made up of over 4,500sq km of un-spoilt countryside, five of the UK’s six highest mountains, 43 munros, 9 nature reserves, an abundance of majestic wildlife, glistening lochs, fast flowing rivers and huge swathes of forests containing ancient Caledonian Pine trees.

The next little town to go to is Aviemore next to the river Spey. From there it is around 15 minutes (6.3 miles) by car to our lodge in Badaguish.

Best airports to fly to are Glasgow or Inverness. From Glasgow are frequent trains to Aviemore trainstation. Or if you go by car it will take around three hours. From Inverness airport in the north of Aviemore it takes around 50 mins by car. There is also an overnight train from London, the “Caledonian Sleeper” that brings you to Aviemore trainstation.

In Scotland you have to expect rain any time of the year. And temperatures can range a great deal too. That means you should be prepared for a variety of weather.
